The Altadena Town Council in solidarity with the Asian American Community In light of the increasing number of hate incidents being reported by Asian Americans and in the wake of the Atlanta shooting in which eight people lost their lives, the Altadena Town Council grieves for those suffering from anti-Asian hate crimes and racism.

The Stop AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Hate group has documented over 3,800 hate incidents recorded by individuals in the last year. Citing this study, the Japanese American National Museum’s President and CEO, Ann Burroughs, reminds us, “the climate of anti-Asian racism cannot be ignored nor can the incendiary language associating Asians with the COVID-19 pandemic.

We stand in solidarity with the Asian American community. We must continue to educate ourselves and our community on systemic racism and implicit biases, and use our voices to call out racism and affirm the dignity of human and ecological life. We call upon individuals, organizations, elected officials, and our government to address the issue of racial justice for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. We stand with all oppressed people and work to end racism.
