Our 2020 Theme: Suffrage, Women’s Liberation and Equal Rights Today.

Our essay prompt this year for students is: The year 2020 is the centennial celebration of women’s right to vote. What have women fought for over the last 100 years and how does that influence what women are still fighting for today?

The year 2020, is the centennial celebration of women‘s right to vote. “We created this assembly in 2018 to remember the fight for women’s suffrage and the achievements of the Women’s Liberation Movement. It’s often shocking to students when they discover that prior to the Women’s Liberation Movement women couldn’t obtain credit cards or a home mortgage by themselves. Women could legally be rejected by college admissions just because they were female. The Women’s Liberation Movement changed all that and more,” said Jennifer Hall Lee, chair of the Eliot Arts Annual Fund.
