My TRIBE Rise Brothers Connecting with Brothers presents “PEACE in the Park”, a day of celebration and mobility justice dialogue with the communities of Altadena and Pasadena at Charles White Peace Park on Saturday, August 21st from 8 am – 12:30 pm PST.
In partnership with the County of Los Angeles, Dena United, Altadena Bicycle Club, Manhood Reach Out, Side Street Projects, and the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, the event will start with a first come first served FREE full course breakfast, then activating the park with a community-led peace walk followed by intergenerational arts & crafts, yoga, meditation, kids’ bike skills course, bike repairs, free bike helmets, and other giveaways!
“PEACE in the Park” purpose is to bring both communities safely to collectively engage in discussion on how Charles White Peace Park can be reactivated into a safe place for everyone. The event will provide the opportunity for community engagement in addressing the need for safer routes to the park, transit and help identify a safe street network to improve the quality of life in the community. The event will showcase solutions such as a temporary bike lane and safer intersection crossings, freeing up the space around the park for the community to enjoy, and more in an effort to begin the process of revisioning the future of the park.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their walking shoes, yoga mats, bicycle, scooter, skates as families and friends come together for a day of celebration in harmony and to add to the collective conversation of reactivating the park into a safe haven and safer streets for the community. This week, my San Fernando Valley office teamed up with Volunteers Cleaning Communities to tend to trails in Chatsworth to restore their natural beauty. Trash built up and created several barriers on the trails for cyclists, hikers, and horses. Thank you to VCC for investing your time and energy to keep our community clean. Keep our community clean.  Antelope Valley residents are invited to a public meeting on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. to share about their community and give input on drawing new districts. I encourage residents to attend to offer their perspective about district boundaries that will be put in place for the next decade. We value your voice and would love to hear your insights.Tune in and learn about redistricting.  Get ready for adventures this fall! Starting in September, the Department of Parks and Recreation will host their Everybody Explores program where they will equip participants of all ages with a naturalist field backpack to complete self-guided activities. Local sites include Eaton Canyon, Placerita Canyon, Vasquez Rocks, and San Dimas Canyon Nature Centers. Youth are also invited to participate in the Young Naturalist After School Club where they can gain confidence outdoors and learn to appreciate nature. Participate in parks programs.
