California’s 7th annual Clean Air Day is just around the corner –– a moment where organizations big and small come together to encourage everyone to do their part to improve our air quality, something we all share. Given that the emissions from private vehicles make up a major source of air pollution in Southern California, Clean Air Day is key to our goal of providing safe, clean, and affordable public transportation to all residents and visitors to LA County. Fast and reliable public transportation, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions, criteria air pollutants, and promotes a healthier environment for everyone, goes a long way toward creating cleaner skies.
So, in that spirit, we’re offering FREE rides on all Metro trains, buses, ride share and bikes this October 2.
- Turnstiles at rail stations will be unlatched, and riders will be free to board buses with no need for a TAP card.
- Metro Micro riders can use code CleanAir24, which will zero out the fare for any booking made for a ride on Oct. 2. (There are no limits on the number of times it can be used per account. The booking app accepts up to 5 passengers per ride.)
- Metro Bike Share riders can activate bikes with code 100224 for a free 30-minute ride (usage fees apply for rides longer than 30 minutes). To redeem, select ‘1-Ride’ at any Metro Bike Share kiosk, online or in the Metro Bike Share app. The code may be used multiple times throughout the day. A credit or debit card is required. Electric Metro Bike unlocking fees are waived.
And that’s not all! This year, Clean Air Day coincides with SoCal Transit Week, which runs from September 30 through October 6. Organized by the transportation non-profit Move LA, this unique collaborative initiative offers a range of interactive activities, such as group bike rides, art walks, a sustainable transportation fair at UCLA, and so much more. Find the full schedule here.
Metro Board Members and Move LA stakeholders get ready for SoCal Transit Week and Clean Air Day at a recent press conference.
So what are you waiting for? Take a ride on us this October 2nd! Every time you travel by train, bus, bike, micro transit, or with your own two feet, you are helping us build a brighter and greener tomorrow. We’re hard at work making our agency more sustainable in other ways, too:
- We continue to invest in zero emission electric buses and “near-zero” emission engine replacements. We’re also committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions now with our use of 100 percent renewable natural gas to fuel our compressed natural gas (CNG) buses. Metro has the largest CNG bus fleet in the nation.
- We continue to work with KBLA radio to bring awareness to climate change and social justice. As communities of color are most adversely affected by climate disasters globally, this partnership brings new voices into the climate conversation.
- We’re proud to be the first transit agency to have a comprehensive tree-replacement program. For every tree a construction project impacts, two more California-native or other drought tolerant trees are planted.
- Read our Moving Beyond Sustainability plan to learn about the investments we’re making to create greener facilities, reduced air pollution and trash from construction, and reduce smog, air pollution, and greenhouse gasses across LA County.
Thanks for going Metro!
