todays updatesStrong Storm Expected Tomorrow, Flood Watch on Wednesday Night

The National Weather Service is forecasting a strong storm to begin tomorrow night, with possible moderate to heavy rains.  A flood watch is still expected from Wednesday 6 p.m. to Thursday 6 p.m. Significant flooding and debris flows, including near burn scar areas, are possible with forecasters anticipating nearly 1 inch per hour rainfall during the storm’s peak.  For more information, click here.

PCH closed Wednesday: A segment of PCH will be closed tomorrow to residents and businesses in burn scar areas due to the incoming storm, Caltrans announced today. Beginning March 12 at noon, only emergency vehicles and US Army Corps’ debris-hauling contractors will be allowed in closure areas. Caltrans and partners will reassess the situation on Thursday to determine when reopening of the highway can occur.

There are evacuation warnings in effect near burn areas of the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, and other recent wildfires.

Road closure updates can be found from Caltrans here and LA County Public Works here.

Due to current rainfall, an Ocean Water Quality Rain Advisory is in effect until Friday, March 14 at 4 p.m. LA County’s Department of Public Health advises beach users to avoid all water contact, especially near discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers due to potentially higher bacteria levels in these areas. Click here for more.

LA County’s Mudflow Advice Hotline is available at 800-933-0930 for questions about debris flows.
